Heterotropic Nutrition

Heterotrophic nutrition index

There are three types of Heterotrophic nutrition:-

  1. Holozoic
  2. Saprophytic
  3. Parasitic

Holozoic:-Nutrition in which organisms feed them complex substances such as (carbohydrate) and break them for nutrition.Eg-human,animals.

Saprophytic :-Nutrition obtained by the organisms from decayed materials and break them outside the body. Eg-yeast, bacteria.

Parasitic:-Organisms which derive nutrition from living organisms without killing them. Eg-cuscuta,lice.

Cuscuta

Nutrition in Amoeba :-

Nutrition in an amoeba occurs through a process called phagocytosis where the entire organism pretty much engulfs the food it plans on eating up. The mode of nutrition in amoeba is known as holozoic nutrition. It involves the ingestion, digestion and egestion of food material.
Amoeba does not have any specialized organ for nutrition. Its entire process is carried through the body surface with the help of pseudopodia.
